My research interests include the intersections of social media and gender; social media and minorities; online harassment; the democratic potential of social media; and women in journalism and media.

My teaching experience includes feminist media theory; qualitative research methods; interviewing as a research method; journalism and new media; news reporting, writing and editing; broadcast news writing, reporting and editing; media literacy; media and journalism history.

IMG_20190827_131240I am honored to receive the 2019 Bernard Brock Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Communication from my colleagues in the Department of Communication at Wayne State University.

It follows after receiving a Top Paper Award at the 2019 Annual Conference of the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and being awarded the 2019 Mary Ann Yodelis Smith Award for Feminist Scholarship by AEJMC’s Commission on the Status of Women.
